Description
THE 50TH EDITION OF THE VOLLEKSLAF WALFERA race for young and old alike
The Vollekslaf Walfer (Walferdange public run) is one of Luxembourg’s best-known running events. Its origins can be traced back to 28 September 1975 and the first Grand Prix de la VallĂ©e de l’Alzette in Lorentzweiler, when 165 runners crossed the finish line.
In 1978, the non-profit association Vollekslaf Walfer was founded and the race was organised in Walferdange for the first time. The event enjoyed steady growth in the years that followed: more than 1,000 runners took part in 1982, while 2,509 runners crossed the line to set a new participation record in 1984, the same year the Vollekslaf became the first race in Luxembourg to introduce electronic timekeeping.
1987 saw the very first Mini-Laf kid’s run. A year later, the mascot Walfy was born. 1994 marked the beginning of competitions for wheelchair athletes. In the years that followed, the Junior-Laf, the Jogging-Laf and team competitions were added. Since 2011, the main route has been 12 km long.
With the event celebrating its 50th edition on 4 October 2026, the Vollekslaf Walfer undeniably remains one thing above all else: a race that brings together people of all ages and appeals to both amateur runners and ambitious athletes.
