About us
POST Philately issues stamps and handles philatelic orders from subscribers and customers.
The development of POST Philately is the history of modernisation. POST Philately processes tens of thousands of orders per year for collectors and other customers.
Since its creation, POST Philately (previously called the Office des Timbres) has offered a complete and professional service, and has consistently sought to modernise its processes.
- POST Philately was founded in the mid-1920s. However, the first issues of uxembourg stamps date back to 1852.
- At this time, creation and production of our first stamps ensured by the " Direction Générale des Finances, the Ministry of Finance " of the time.
- POST Philately took over stamp production as soon as it was founded. The main stock was managed by the Registration Duties until 1992.
- In the 1930s, a mail order service, one of the first of its kind, was set up. This service allowed foreign philatelists to buy Luxembourg stamps.
- During World War II, philatelic notices, containing detailed descriptions of the new stamps were published.
- After the war, a standing order service was launched and was very popular with philatelists.
- In the early 1970s computers took over from addressograph files, which had become obsolete.
- In 1980, POST PHilately opened the POSTMusée – the Post's museum - at the Rue de Reims. It housed a complete collection of Luxembourg stamps. In 1995, the museum moved to a better location at the Place de la Gare. At the moment, the PostMusée is closed due to construction works of the new POST headquarters.
- In the summer of 1983 a special philatelic counter was opened at the Luxembourg-City post office. This counter still exists today. Special services for collectors are available here. When the first Luxembourg telephone cards were issued in November 1990, a boom in "Telekaart" collectors was triggered. POST Philately took charge of producing the new cards. A mailing and subscription service was also set up.
- In 2006, POST Philately launched its personalised stamps and postcards service at meng.post.lu.
- From 2010, POST Philately started to broaden its product range to include philatelic and numismatic items.
- POST Philately opened its online shop in 2013 which offers the full range of products.
- As part of the POST Luxembourg rebranding process, the name of the Office des Timbres was changed to POST Philately.
- At the start of 2015, POST Philately launched a new app called Smart Postcard.
