Description

A quarter of a century in the service of Luxembourg

2025 marks the 25th anniversary of HRH Grand Duke Henri’s accession to the throne.

On 7 October 2000, HRH the Grand Duke was formally sworn in at the Chamber of Deputies, where he took the constitutional oath and pledged to observe the Constitution and the laws of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and to maintain the national independence and integrity of the territory, as well as public and individual liberties.

In his first speech as Grand Duke, he highlighted the fundamental values that characterise social harmony, emphasising that solidarity, justice, tolerance, mutual respect and humanity form the backbone of a civilised society. The promotion of an inclusive society remains one of HRH’s priorities to this day. Shortly after his inauguration, TRH the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess made official visits to France (9-10 October 2000) and Germany (11-12 October 2000) to help maintain the close relations Luxembourg enjoys with these two neighbouring countries. Between April 2001 and June 2002, they travelled through all twelve cantons of Luxembourg in order to get to know the different regions of the country better and, above all, to strengthen their connection with the people of Luxembourg.

HRH the Grand Duke takes a keen interest in a wide range of topics and issues that are important to the Grand Duchy, and he is committed to promoting and conveying the country’s strengths and values around the world. The issues of nature conservation and environmental protection, as well as the health and social benefits of sport, are amongst his priorities.
