Four trades of yesteryear feature on this special stamp set.

The washerwoman

This stamps pays tribute to the washerwoman. Using soap, a washboard and a beater, washerwomen took care of dirty washing.

Washerwomen washed clothes.

Each item was first soaked, then rubbed and washed. Washing was done using soap, a washboard and a beater. Washed clothes were dried outside and ironed before being put back clean into the wardrobe.

The Milliner

This stamp represents the milliner, an artisan who made hats in the last century. In this era hats were an everyday accessory.

The milliner was a hat maker.

Hats were still part of everyday clothing at the start of the 20th century,
 and milliners had a considerable influence on fashion at the time.

Each hat was a unique piece, and milliners stood out using their creative ideas, shapes, fabrics and other decorations.

The Woman farmer

This stamp pays tribute a physically hard and difficult job in this era: farming. This job was frequently performed by women.

Female farmers helped to cultivate the land and to care for animals. They also looked after the children and took care of the whole farm.

The work of a woman farmer was physically demanding. In those days there were no farm machines to assist the families who worked in the fields.

The Market gardener

This stamp portrays an occupation that has completely disappeared today. The market gardener grew and cared for their plants before selling them at the market

Market gardeners grew and tended to high quality herbs, fruit and vegetables which were them sold at the weekly market.
