Commemorative stamp - Anniversary of the accession to the throne of Grand Duke Jean

POST Philately pays tribute to H.R.H Grand Duke Jean. This portrait stamp is issued to mark the 50th anniversary of his accession to the throne.

On 26 April 1961, Grand Duchess Charlotte appointed the Hereditary Grand Duke her Lieutenant Representative.
On 12 November 1964, Grand Duchess Charlotte passed the crown of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to her son Jean. He became the eighth sovereign since the Grand Duchy was founded in 1815.

A stamp to honour the reign of Grand-Duke Jean

The reign of H.R.H Grand Duke Jean has been characterised by a long period of prosperity for Luxembourg. The sovereign contributed to the blossoming of stable political, economic and social life in Luxembourg.

Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte affirmed the dynasty's fundamental contribution to the unity and permanency of Luxembourg.

On 4 March 1998, Grand Duke Jean nominated his son Henri as his Lieutenant Representative. On 7 October 2000, Grand Duke Jean abdicated in favour of his son Henri, who became the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
