Description

The Fédération des Sociétés philatéliques du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg

The FSPL was founded on 22 February 1934. The articles of incorporation were signed by the four philately associations that existed at that time:

Today, the FSPL has 1,700 full members in 35 associations. It is a member of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP).

The history of philately in Luxembourg

After the Second World War various philately exhibitions have been held.

The artist

Anne Mélan was born in 1984 and is a Luxembourgish artist. POST Philately commissioned her to create the commemorative stamp for the FSPL's 80th anniversary.

How did you create this stamp?

The main aim of this stamp was to attract young people to stamp collecting. That's why it had to be an original idea that would attract their attention.

Is this project one of your signature designs?

Everyone was expecting to see a drawing, but I chose to make a photomontage. The montage is made up of many evocative details, I think it is more appropriate, and more in keeping with the times.

All of these details are important to the image…

There are actually a lot of different small stories within the image. Most elements were used to illustrate stamp collecting. On the table, little men stick stamps in an album… The subject of the stamp is projected on the wall to show the FSPL's anniversary. Lastly, for the Luxembourg aspect of the project, I have included well-known Luxembourg architectural landmarks.
