Description

The Moselle Commission is a public intergovernmental institution. It operates based on the Convention on the Canalisation of the Moselle (Moselle Convention), signed in 1956 by Germany, France and Luxembourg.

In 1962, the large-vessel waterway was completed and in 1964 the first large vessels navigated the Moselle.

To mark the 50th anniversary of this event, the Moselle Commission will organise many joint celebrations with the three member countries.

The Moselle Commission

The Moselle Commission's remit is to promote the interests of shipping on the Moselle and to ensure that shipping continues to operate as profitably as possible.

In 2013, more than 14 million tonnes of goods were registered at the Koblenz lock.

All decision making takes into account the best interests of waterway users, whether that be cargo shipping, passenger transport or recreational boating.
